For many, the path to becoming an educator is a calling, but finding the right environment to nurture both professional skills and spiritual growth can be a challenge. In our latest Alumni Spotlight, we sat down with a 2025 graduate who shared how Champion Christian College helped her bridge that gap—even from a distance.
The journey began in the fall of 2021. After hearing about Champion through her brother, Jesus Martinez, she learned about the college’s online component during a graduation visit. The prospect was exciting: she could pursue her Elementary Education degree while also diving deep into biblical studies. After praying and making a few calls, everything fell into place.
One might think that being a long-distance student would feel isolating, but at Champion, that wasn’t the case. "Champion’s professors really do make you feel seen," she shared. Whether it was her advisor, Dr. Malone, checking in on her well-being or bonding with Christina Lindley over a shared love for reading, the "family" feel was always present. Professors even sent messages letting her know they were praying for her, ensuring she felt like part of the community despite the miles.
The impact of a Champion education extends far beyond a diploma. For this alumna, the Bible classes were life-changing, moving her from simply reading the Word to truly studying it on a deeper level. Though she initially felt intimidated by the academic challenge, she found that professors were dedicated to helping students grow spiritually without judgment.
After graduating and seeking professional licensure through the examination or certification process designated by the governing board(s) of the state of Texas, she is a fully certified 4th-grade Math and Science teacher. Beyond the classroom, she carries the school’s motto of "Christ-centered servant leadership" into her local church, where she serves in various ministries and leads a women’s Bible study.
Every student has a standout memory, but hers involves a bit of humor and a lot of heart. Just a month before her 2025 graduation, she injured her calf muscle playing pickleball. Determined to walk—or rather, roll—across the stage, she used a knee scooter for the ceremony.
"I felt so silly," she recalled, "but these two guys [in the graduation lineup] made sure I could make it on and off the stage stairs okay... I had never met these people until that day". It was a final, perfect example of the "family" culture that defines the Champion experience.
